At this year’s NHS Providers Conference, NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group shared value seen, learnings and future plans following the implementation of DERM.
The session was hosted by Dr Richard Azurdia, Consultant Dermatologist, and Jodi Williams, Divisional General Manager, from NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group.
The team discussed how teledermatology alone has not been enough to tackle increasing referrals for suspected skin cancer with limited dermatology capacity.
By leveraging DERM, the Trust aimed to:
✅ Safely discharge patients with benign lesions quicker, removing the need for face-to-face dermatology appointments
✅Streamline patients to the most appropriate point of care
✅Improve skin cancer conversion rates
✅Improve access for patients closer to home
When asked, ‘for anyone in a similar position to you, what are the top takeaways you’d like to share?’, they responded:
1. Don’t wait until it’s broken to fix it
2. Be bold and innovative
3. Do something different
